Twitter Buzz: Joyce El-Khoury thrills as Pauline in Donizetti’s rare masterpiece Les Martyrs
Last night, Soprano Joyce El-Khoury sang at Royal Festival Hall (London, UK) in a rare performance of Donizetti’s Les Martyrs under the baton on maestro Sir Mark Elder. The opera was led by Joyce in the role of Pauline and tenor Michael Spyres in the role of Polyeucte. Here’s the first impression from the twitterverse! What a night! In the week leading up to this performance, the performers recorded the work.
A privilege to watch a true star singing tonight: Joyce El-Khoury (et al) in #lesmartyrs at Festival Hall.

Joyce El-Khoury sang exquisite floated high notes & her spirited & powerful singing gave a real sense of character to Pauline #LesMartyrs

Limpid, floated pianissimi, thrilling attack, smoky low notes, volleys of descending scales & passagework, @JoyceSoprano had it all!

How *does* Joyce El-Khoury pluck pianissimos from thin air like that?! #LesMartyrs @theoae
