Joyce El-Khoury will be the guest of The Geneva University of Music and The Ascanio Association to present La Sorcière, a jewel of French post-romantic opera, plunged into oblivion for more than a century.

Imagine an opera that captivated minds more than 100 years ago, unjustly disappeared from the music scene. Camille Erlanger’s “The Witch” will be reborn on December 12, 2023 for a unique performance under the gold of the Victoria Hall in Geneva. More than 24 soloists, a majestic 60-voice choir, and an orchestra of more than 100 musicians, conducted by the talented conductor Guillaume Tourniaire, will merge to recreate the magic of the Opera “La Sorcière” in its concert version.

An unjustly forgotten composer, Camille Erlanger occupies a significant place in the history of lyrical theatre, and his works have in their time strongly impressed the musical world with their originality, theatrical efficiency and sense of sound decor. Among these scores, The Witch – whose action strikes with violence and darkness – is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable by its expressive force, as well as by its sensuality, its lyricism and the quality of its libretto.

After her successful run as Madama Butterfly, Joyce returns to Opéra de Montréal for La Reine-Garçon.

After the great success of Les feluettes (2016) and La Beauté du monde (2022), Quebec playwright Michel Marc Bouchard is back with his libretto for La Reine-Garçon, an adaptation of his play, Christine, la reine-garçon. He is joined by composer Julien Bilodeau, with whom he has undeniably developed a privileged creative chemistry. Joyce El-Khoury stars alongside Etienne Dupuis, in a production staged by Angela Konrad (Yourcenar, une île de passions – 2022).
