Joyce to sing both Mimi & Musetta at COC
This morning the Canadian Opera Company (COC) announced their 2013-2014 season which includes a NEW COC co-production (with Houston Grand Opera and San Francisco Opera) of Puccini’s La bohème. This production will be directed by John Caird and conducted by Carlo Rizzi.
Joyce’s performance dates are as following:
MUSETTA: 1, 6, 12, 16, 18, 22, 25, 29 October 2013
MIMI: 9, 19, 27, 30 October 2013
“Joyce El-Khoury delivered an exceptional performance as Mimi. The soprano’s velvety tone would have provided ample reward on its own, especially the several delicately spun pianissimos, but this was not just another pretty voice. El-Khoury shaped each line with refined musical and textual sensitivity, while employing natural acting skills to give her portrayal considerable depth.”

“Miss El-Khoury’s vocal instrument is of the Ghena Dimitrova variety. Superbly technically schooled with excellent volume, owning that undefinable vibrato one heard only from the late Miss Dimitrova. This is a vocal instrument which has no issue soaring above all else in ensemble, and the most demanding orchestrations.”
